Medicine Mama

My name is Susanne Barrett a.k.a. "Medicine Mama". I've always had a passion for nature, wildcrafting herbs and healing practices. I grew up in Pottawatomie County in Oklahoma. For as long as I can remember my family was deeply connected with the land and nature. Growing up with a Cherokee heritage and my great uncle, Tom Sanders being a Medicine Man in the Oklahoma Territory, traditions and knowledge about the land were passed down to my mother and then to me.

I'm very thankful for that, as it has made me who I am today.

When I was young, my mother and I would drive around the Oklahoma countryside and wildcraft herbs and fruits. We gathered elderberry, sand Plums, poke, blackberries, yarrow, dandelion and other plants and herbs.  My mother told me, "everything that we needed could be found in nature". My family raised cattle and horses when I was growing up and I spent a lot of time observing and embracing the beauties of nature that surrounded me. These experiences have helped me to develop a deep respect for the natural world and have led me to study herbal medicine practices.

Over 35 years ago, I moved to the Big Island of Hawaii and have made this beautiful island my home. Over the years I've learned more and more about herbs and their healing properties. I've spent years fine tuning herbal formulas so that I'm able to share them with others. My passions are to educate people and empower them to learn more about the products and ingredients that they use on their body and to create special medicinal blends to enhance their health and wellbeing.

All of our botanicals are grown in our nursery on our small family run farm on the east side of the Big Island of Hawaii. With expert care and supervision from myself and my partner, Jon Aynessazian, we pride ourselves in growing natural, organic botanicals of the highest quality.
